What is SIC?
The Safe Injectables Certification (SIC) is a nationally recognized credential developed to elevate injector competency, reduce risk, and promote safe, evidence-based practices across the aesthetics industry. Whether you’re an experienced provider or newly entering the field, SIC helps ensure you’re practicing with the most current safety standards in mind.
SIC is designed for licensed healthcare professionals who perform injectable treatments and want to validate their commitment to safety, clinical excellence, and continuing education. This certification is appropriate for any provider working within their legal scope of practice in the state where they are licensed.
Who Qualifies for SIC?
The SIC certification is designed for licensed professionals who already meet their state’s requirements to perform aesthetic injections. This includes completion of an approved introductory course, hands-on training, or any prerequisite education mandated by their licensing board.
Eligible professionals include:
Registered Nurses (RN)
Nurse Practitioners (NP)
Physician Assistants (PA)
Physicians (MD/DO)
Dentists (DMD/DDS)
Dental Assistants
Estheticians (in states where injectables are within their legal scope)
Applicants must self-attest that they have completed the initial training required in their state and are currently practicing within their legal scope.
The SIC Initial Certification Exam
The certification exam consists of:
Two-year certification upon passing (Passing Score: 90%)
SIC certificate
Case-based clinical scenarios
Multiple-choice questions
70% Clinical anatomy
10% Complication management & Injectable Safety
5% Clinical decision making
5% Neuromodulators
5% Dermal fillers & Biostimulators
5% Dosing and reconstitution
Renewal Requirements
SIC certification is valid for two years from the date of issuance. To maintain certification, you must:
Qualify by completing ONE of the following:
Complete the updated review course through AIA within 6 months of renewal.
Complete 50 hours of CE contact hours specific to aesthetic medicine.
5 of these must be Aesthetic Pharmacology.
